The Nigerian High Commissioner to Ghana Ambassador Olufemi Michael Abikoye has officially started work as the Nigerian Ambassador to Ghana after presenting his letter of credence to President Nana Akuffo Addo of Ghana on Friday the 18th of August ,he culminated the occasion in the evening of same day with a small greet and meet event at his residence for the diplomatic community in Ghana and heads of Nigeria Community in Ghana.
After the retirement of Amb. Onafowokan in 2015 ,The leadership of the Nigerian Diplomatic envoy in Ghana has been under few temporary headship, starting with Mr. O. O Osasona as Charge D Affairs for some months before Mrs. Sonaike Ayodeji arrived on Dec 2015 and took over from him and assumed position of Acting High Commissioner for almost 19 Months till she was assigned to Philippines as Nigerian Ambassador few months ago.
His Excellency Amb.Abikoye in his short speech to the guests at his residence declared his unalloyed dedication to the bilateral interest of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
”The Nigeria Government Authorities believe strongly in the UN that is very constructive, that is very strong, and that is very representing, I want to assure the Excellencies that are here today that my doors are open 24/7,please avoid unnecessary protocol, call me at your own time, am here to build friendship, am here to extend the Nigeria brotherly relations to all countries, when you call on Nigeria, Nigeria will be there for you, Nigeria will answer you, I have the mandate of his Excellency President Muhammad Buhari GCFR to extend friendship to all Nations, to support all Nations and I will do that.
Let me let you know that this is my second coming to Ghana ,1998 to 2001 for those of us in the diplomatic circle I was here as a minister counselor, I enjoyed the friendship of this country, I appreciate the culture and cooperation of this country, it’s a blessed country, and am back here as the principal envoy of Mr. President, I will build and I will exert all my efforts and all my energy to ensure cooperation with all nations ,please extend your support to me and know that you have a brother you can always depend on”
H.E. Mr. Femi Abikoye, High Commissioner of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to the Republic of Ghana is a seasoned diplomat with over 30 years of experience in the Foreign Service. Ambassador Abikoye holds a B.Sc degree in Economics from University of Ilorin, Kwara State, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Information Technology from the prestigious University of Ghana, Legon.
Prior to his appointment as High Commissioner of Nigeria to Ghana, he has served in various capacities in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nigeria as Director, Office of the Special Assistant to the Permanent Secretary, Supervising Director, Regions. Furthermore, he served as Minister, Embassy of Nigeria, Tokyo, Japan between 2010 and 2013, First Vice Consul, Consulate-General of Nigeria, Buea, Cameroon (2001-2004), Minister Counsellor, Nigeria High Commission, Accra Ghana (1998-2001). He is member, National Award Committee.
The veteran in diplomatic relations represented Nigeria as delegate to the United Nations Assembly, World Bank/IMF Conference in Tokyo, Japan, African Union Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Delegate to the UN World Conference on Transnational organised crime at Patermo, Sicily, Italy and World Cup, Paris in France among others.
He is widely travelled and enjoys reading, soccer, jogging and swimming. Ambassador Abikoye is happily married to Mrs. Margaret Kikelomo Abikoye and they are blessed with four children.
